About time zones and DST

This calculator uses fixed UTC offsets. It does NOT account for Daylight Saving Time (DST) shifts. For exact times during DST periods (March-November in most northern countries), add or subtract 1 hour from listed standard times.

India, China, Japan, and most Asian countries do not observe DST.

Why different ingredients have different weights

1 cup is 240 ml regardless of what's in it. But the WEIGHT varies because of density. A cup of flour weighs ~120g; a cup of honey weighs ~340g. This is why baking recipes from professionals use weights (grams) instead of volumes — it's much more accurate.

For consistent baking, especially bread and pastry, weigh ingredients with a kitchen scale.

Percentage formulas explained

Percent of a number: result = (X × Y) ÷ 100. Example: 20% of 200 = (20 × 200) ÷ 100 = 40.

Percent change: ((new − old) ÷ |old|) × 100. Example: going from 200 to 250 = ((250-200)÷200) × 100 = +25%.

Percent difference: (|X − Y| ÷ ((X + Y) ÷ 2)) × 100. Uses the average as a baseline.

Percentages are everywhere — sales discounts (30% off), tax rates (8% sales tax), investment returns (+12% annual), tips (15-20% on meals), and GPA calculations.
